I made some chicken with the Maharajah Style Curry Powder from Penzeys and although it was certainly good for a curry powder, It's still not something I will ever use again. It turned my food a horrible fluorescent yellow color, which I tried to fix by adding Paprika. It made a nice fluorescent orange color in the yellow's place. The powder smelled great, it made me think immediately of Biryani and was full of Saffron. I guess no matter how good the powder is, I will never find a curry powder that I like. My daughter still liked it, but I knew it was lacking something. I guess that's the best way for me to describe how I felt about it, it was not a bad flavor but every bite just felt like it was missing something important.

Hi Meeso!
we do sometimes have such disapointments with masala's(powders)
Too much of saffron also makes the curry taste somewhat different, though the aroma would be delightful.
But I was glad to see your post..and would be happy to see some more post sooooon in your humble kitchen.
Hihi i loved the way you described the colour :)
I must say the dish is still look very nice.
~ Zainab, I wish I was posting more often and I am missing looking at everyone's blogs daily...I hope to catch up soon with everything...Thank you for looking for my posts :)
~ Maimoona, The powders to always disappoint but for some reason I always try again...Thanks for stopping by :)
~ Happy cook, The color was just awful, I guess some people think if you turn the food an awful yellow, than It's Indian ;) Thanks for stopping by!
Meeso can understand the disgust when masalas make things go wrong ....But the color looks nice in the photo...see ya soon!!
I still think it looks yummy....probably the masala had more of turmeric...
Yeah some curry powders are really a miss rather than a hit.
~ Swati, Thanks for seeing something positive ;)
~ Rachel, I think you're right about the turmeric...too much causes a horrible taste!
~ Cynthia, I guess I should stick to the ones made at home!
