Asiago Barbecue Pizza

My favorite pizza is a homemade pizza... I am in complete control over my toppings. I was never a huge fan of pizza's growing up... but when new innovative pizza's started showing up, I got more interested! I remember pineapple being the first "exotic" topping I came across. I was crazy for pineapple then! But the first time I tasted barbecue sauce on pizza, I fell in love! I rarely use the standard tomato sauce anymore. Here's the recipe...

  • 1 prepared pizza crust (whole wheat makes it healthier ;)
  • approximately 1 cup barbecue sauce (Sweet Baby Ray's Sweet & Spicy is awesome)
  • 1/4 green bell pepper, chopped small
  • 1 small onion, chopped small
  • 8 ounce pineapple chunks, sliced thin
  • 1 chicken breast, sliced and cooked (I used Mrs. Dash's Southwest Chipotle to season)
  • approximately 1 - 2 cups shredded cheese (I used Asiago, and I went light)
I like to put some cheese over the sauce, layer the rest of my toppings, and add just a bit more cheese to bind everything to the pizza. Sauce & toppings can be adjusted, changed, omitted, etc. to suit whatever you would like to have for yourself. I followed the instructions for baking on the crust.

I am sending this recipe to Radhika's 'Cook for Yourself' event.

I love jalapenos and pineapple combo! We even get chicken tikka pizza topping where I live !
The whole wheat crust and filling the layer with barbecue sauce sounds too good!

You are absolutely right! home made pizza is the best!!!. And the best combo is spicey sauce, roast chicken and pineapple!! although have never thought of putting barbeque sauce always thought it had to be either tomato or pesto :) thanks for the idea

Wow...Pizza with bbq sauce sounds yummy!!
Over the weekend my dad, sister, BIL and I made pizzas (my first time)! I wish we had bbq sauce as an option. I tried goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach and regular sauce which turned out pretty good. :)
