Steak & Mushrooms

This is such a simple dinner and It's the kind of thing I grew up eating. Steak, fried mushrooms & onions, hash browns & corn...this is my mom's kind of dinner. It's not the kind of food I would ever think to make myself, and It's not even something I would order in a restaurant, but it is something I relish when It's made by my mother! This is my kind of comfort food! It reminds me of my childhood, the smell of the kitchen when my mom is cooking this familiar dinner brings back memories. I have been a foodie since as far back as I can remember, getting excited about different dishes my mom would make, watching her, asking questions and learning lots! I still have an arsenal of recipes from my mom that I have to attempt myself, but I know that no matter what I do, no matter how closely I follow a recipe, it will never taste the same. My mom often complains that no matter what she does she can't get her food to taste as good as my grandma's. I think there are some dishes I won't attempt myself, even simple ones such as this, because It's just not the same unless It's prepared by my mother. I use to get so happy when my grandma would ask me to make egg rolls for her because she liked mine the best :) During her last years, she lived with us, and I got the chance to cook quite a bit for her. It's amazing how food can bring back a memory, or make any day more special. It's great to have the chance to make something good for someone you love...The time spent really shows how much you love them. All of this...from food :D

I agree with you! Moms are really the world's best chef, their most important ingredient that they put is "love". So no matter how simple or fabulous the recipe it will always be incredibly delicious...nice post!!

Meeso i do make steak here at home for my hubby and daughter, as they love it. Just that then i won't eat it as i don't like them. But if i make someother beef dish i eat them if it is with some spices.
So when i make them steak it is always served with french fries and salade and mushrrom sauce or green peper ball sauce. So i will be eating everything else other than the beef.
